Richmond police busted a suspected car theft ring after witnesses reported individuals dropping off vehicles in the 4400 block of Fieldcrest Drive, just west of El Sobrante.
Officers responded to the report of suspicious activity around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday and found two unoccupied cars.
“Within less than an hour, the suspects returned with two additional vehicles and fled the location again,” police said. “Officers had an instinct that something unusual was happening, and this was not a valet service operation, so they decided to wait and see if the suspects would return with additional vehicles to ‘valet.’
The suspects returned, “speeding past” officers to drop off two more cars. When officers approached, the suspects exited the cars and fled on foot, according to police.
Two suspects were apprehended and five vehicles that had just been stolen were recovered.
