A cosmetology vocational school seeks to locate at the Macdonald 80 Shopping Center in Richmond.

Applicant Sunil Sharma is requesting a conditional use permit from the city’s Planning Commission to locate SID Tech Beauty College within the shopping center at 4200 Macdonald Ave., which is near I-80 and includes Target.

The vocational school would operate within a 3,150 square feet space formerly occupied by Cutz, Curlz & More. It would feature a main classroom, a break room and a waxing room, according to city documents.

If approved, SID Tech Beauty College would accommodate three teachers, two staff members and about 30 students, and would operate from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The school would hold classes in the morning and evening, operating all year round with new students enrolled every two months.

“This institution aims to provide education and training in the fields of barbering and cosmetology,” city staff state, adding. “The school would also provide beauty and grooming services.”

The Planning Commission is scheduled to review Sharma’s request for a permit at its Oct. 17 meeting.
