Thousands are expected along Richmond’s 23rd Street corridor into San Pablo on Saturday, Sept. 14, when the inaugural “Fiestas Patrias Parade”—Latin American Independence Day—hits the streets starting at 10 a.m.
The parade, which was scheduled when this year’s Cinco de Mayo parade was rained out, will launch at the intersection of 23rd Street and Barrett Avenue, continuing north along 23rd Street toward San Pablo Avenue. It will end at 12:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Church in San Pablo.
“This celebration marks a new and exciting chapter in our community’s cultural history,” said Genoveva Calloway, chair of the parade planning committee.
The parade will mark a coming together of cultures by celebrating the independence anniversaries of numerous Latin American countries, such as Mexico, Chile, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Brazil.
Organizers said the event will feature traditional music, dance, vibrant costumes and floats echoing the rich cultural heritage of each nation represented.
