With local schools set to resume in August, the Kiwanis Club of San Pablo is letting the public know about its annual “Back to School Backpack Giveaway at the San Pablo Library.

The free event will take place Aug. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will also include free haircuts for children, free school supplies and resources for children and parents, according to Lucy Alfar, the President of the Kiwanis Club of San Pablo.

Registration is required (see the QR code in the flyer at the end of this article).

The annual backpack giveaway is a key initiative of the Kiwanis Club, which sets out to “provide essential resources and support that can transform lives and open doors to brighter futures,” Alfar said.

“By offering educational resources, programs, mentorship, and essential school supplies every summer before the school year starts, we strive to create a nurturing environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive, and every caregiver has one less thing to check off their list,” she said.

Alfar says this work is imperative.

“It means giving hope to those who need it most, fostering a sense of community, and building a stronger more inclusive San Pablo,” she said. “For me, it is a privilege and a responsibility to contribute to the well-being and growth of our future generations.”

Volunteerism plays an important role in every event.

“The generosity and dedication of our Kiwanis members, donors, and partnering organizations are the backbone of our club,” she said. “All of my fellow Kiwanis club of San Pablo members, Sidia Rivas, Iris Escorcia, Steven Navarro, Brenda Rios, Nerly Reyes, Noe Villanueva, Argentina Davila-Luevano, Angel Luevano, Mary Villanueva, Jonathan Fuentes, Mario West, I extent my heartfelt gratitude. Their selfless contributions of time, energy, and resources profoundly make our mission possible for the children and families we serve.”
