Richmond High School’s music department director is fundraising in order to send 16 of his students to the La Honda Music Camp.

This will be Music Director Andrew Wilke’s seventh year sending students to the summer camp in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Consisting of professionals, collegiate music professors and veteran school music teachers, this camp “has truly proven to be a key point of transformation for our program and for the students,” Wilke said.

“At summer camp they are surrounded by other young musicians from all over the state who are also passionate about making music,’ Wilke stated in a GoFundMe he started to raise money for the trip.

In addition to enhanced music education, they network and make connections.

“Sending one student to camp motivates them and inspires them to reach new heights,” Wilke said. “The students we send come back to RHS in the Fall bringing that energy and focus to all of our music classes. This has led them to compete in competitions, march at Disneyland, the SF Chinese New Year Parade, and many other community events.”
