You can play chess while honoring veterans this Friday.
As recently reported, the Veterans Resource Program is hosting a Veterans Day celebration in front of its headquarters at 934 Maine Ave. in Richmond on Friday. Among the activities will be a chess tournament that is open to the public.
It costs $25 to register for the chess tournament, which runs throughout the duration of the Veterans Day celebration from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The Veterans Day celebration, however, is free and will take place along the closed street on Maine Avenue between S. 9th Street and Harbour Way.
The event’s opening ceremony will include the presentation of colors from De Anza High School’s JROTC, followed by speakers John Seimen and Delphine Metcalf Foster, the daughter of an original Buffalo Soldier.
The flag presentation will honor 11 veterans. Lunch and refreshments will also be provided free of charge.
