The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano’s bi-monthly distributions at Richmond Civic Center will transition from drive-up to walk-up services starting on Oct. 12. The final day of drive-thru distribution will be this Thursday, Sept. 28.
The distribution will continue to run bi-monthly from noon to 1 p.m. at Barrett Avenue and 25th Street.
“The main goal for the change is to continue providing the same poundage
of food while ensuring traffic/client safety,” city officials said.
In walk-up distributions, clients will be asked to bring one or two bags with handles to the distribution, which will continue to occur from noon to 1 p.m. Each client will be able to pick up a bag of non-perishable foods, fresh produce and proteins at no cost from the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano.
At the Sept. 14 distribution at Civic Center, 436 households were served, including 1,557 individuals, and 7,595 pounds of total foods were distributed, including 3,454 pounds of fresh produce and 1,543 pounds of dairy and protein, according to the city.
