Well-known local Chef Phillip Mitchell will launch his new food venture, ‘Kim’s Louisiana Kitchen, at the East Brother Beer Co. taproom on Thursday, May 11.
“We be there on a regular basis, but we’re starting off with a slow roll-out with limited days,” Mitchell told the Standard. “We will be serving our food one day a week, every other week, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.”
The regular event will offer patrons an opportunity to interact with Chef Mitchell and his Louisiana Kitchen team.
The menu for Thursday, May 11 will consist of four turkey sliders for $15, with chips $18, or an all beef hot dog for $3, with chips $5 and a side of chips is $2. Mitchell noted they would soon have vegetarian food available on the menu soon.
The East Brother Beer Co. taproom is located at 1001 Canal Blvd. in Richmond.
Chef Mitchell and his food ventures have been a staple in the community for several years, in part because his efforts often support members of the community.
The chef recently launched R&R Hospitality Academy, a new Richmond organization that helps prepare and certify low income young adults for careers in the hospitality industry, in part by tasking the program’s students with preparing free lunches for local seniors alongside their instructor.
His previous ventures include R&R Coffee, which operated at the Bridge Storage Arts and Events and, before that, at Hilltop Mall, and Kim’s Louisiana Fried Turkey & Stuff.
Most of the chef’s adult life has been spent in the food industry, and he’s influenced by his Louisiana roots, according to an East Brother Beer Co. blog. His wife, Kim, is a Richmond native whose uncle was the first Black grocer in Richmond. Read more about the couple on the blog here.
