The Richmond community no longer needs to mourn the loss of Mississippi Catfish, the popular restaurant that recently closed at 12440 San Pablo Avenue.
The restaurant’s owner, Thomas Wright, has announced Mississippi Catfish will hold a grand opening at its new location — 4203 Valley View Road in El Sobrante — on Saturday, April 8, from noon to 8 p.m.
Wright said the owner of the muffler shop adjacent to the Mississippi Catfish’s former location sold the building, prompting the restaurant’s move. Wright said he’s looking forward to the new location becoming even more successful than the former, calling it “a good fit for us.”
“They have an excellent kitchen, great location, ample parking and it’s close to the I-80 freeway,” Wright said.
Little will change about what made Mississippi Catfish a community hot spot.
“Our most popular dishes are of course the catfish and our prawns,” Wright said. “We will also feature some of our great side dishes like our Creole potato salad, black-eyes peas and hush-puppies. We serve the very finest Southern food to be found anywhere.”
For many years, Wright had cooked his catfish in a trailer at the back of the property of the old Richmond location, before he moved into the building around 2009.
“We know for a fact that once our customers have had the experience of eating at Mississippi Catfish, they will return for more of our mouthwatering food,” Wright said.
