The annual Richmond Fire and Police toy program is in full swing, with the aim of providing hundreds of local families in need with food and toys for the holidays.

To make this possible, help is needed. Community members are encouraged to drop by any Richmond fire station to donate toys that will be distributed to registered families at an event on Dec. 17.

Richmond firefighters are also hosting a benefit for the toy program at East Brother Beer Company this Saturday, Dec. 3. Prizes from gift cards to a TV will be raffled off from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the brewery at 1001 Canal Blvd. The event is both kid and pet friendly.

The Richmond Fire & Police Holiday Food and Toy Program was inspired back in 1989 by firefighter Rod Woods, who organized a toy drive. Meanwhile, the Richmond Police Department had been running a food drive. After many years of growing their separate programs, Fire and Police united as one, with the Chevron Fire Department also stepping up and adding its support.

Visit the Richmond Fire & Police Holiday Food and Toy Program website here. For more information on donations and the East Brother Beer Co. event on Dec. 3, see the following flyers.
