Volunteers distribute 1,000 turkeys from Booker T. Anderson Park

One thousand turkeys were making their way to Richmond families in need Monday thanks to a partnership involving Hilco Redevelopment Partners, Richmond Mayor Tom Butt’s office and other community partners.

About 25 volunteers from local community organizations met at Booker T. Anderson Park Monday to distribute the turkeys to representatives of churches, neighborhood councils, schools, residential complexes, shelters, veterans centers, and community organizations. The turkeys were then set to be distributed to local families.

Hilco Redevelopment Partners ordered all the turkeys to donate. Richmond Mayor Butt’s office stepped up to help with logistics. SparkPoint Contra Costa-West and Southside Development (SEED) were among the participating organizations.

“We have a tradition in Richmond where everybody is well-fed on Thanksgiving and has a traditional turkey dinner,” Richmond Mayor Tom Butt said.
