Richmond firefighters quickly doused a fire that burned at the base of the I-80 overpass at San Pablo Avenue this morning, just across the street from Roosevelt Avenue.
The fire occurred at about 10:15 a.m. A three-crew fire engine responded to the reports in about three minutes, said Richmond fire Battalion Chief Victor Bontempo.
Bontempo said trash in the area caught fire, although how the trash ignited wasn’t immediately clear. Bontempo said there have been at least a dozen recent fires in that location, some linked to homeless encampments.
