West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Chris Hurst will sit down for a “Community Meet & Greet” Sat., April 23 at Noon at CoBiz Richmond, Inc., 1503 Macdonald Ave. in downtown Richmond.
The free event, which is sponsored by Richmond’s Soulful Softball Sunday, welcomes students, parents, staff and community members to a panel discussion moderated by Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD) Board President Ka’Dijah Brown.
Panel members Bendrick Foster, Tamisha Torres, Don Gosney, Gonzalo Rucobo, Helene Burks, Golddie Williams and Mister Phillips will discuss topics including: campus safety, the 2022-2023 district budget, solvency and receivership and the COVID-19 crisis, according to organizer Rodney Alamo Brown. Audience members will also have the opportunity to ask questions of the superintendent or panel members.
A catered hot lunch will be served by Ron Webster of The Humble Servant. The event schedule will be: 11:20 a.m.-12:10 p.m., lunch; 12:13 p.m.-12:20 p.m., a welcome including prayer, song and remarks from Bishop James Williams, Bianca Brown and Alamo Brown; 12:21 p.m.-12:25 p.m., introduction of moderator Ka’Dijah Brown; 12:27 p.m.-12:35 p.m., introduction of panel; 12:27p.m.-12:35 p.m., introduction of WCCUSD Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Chris Hurst; 12:41 p.m., a panel discussion of the aforementioned issues; and from 1:16 p.m.-2:16 p.m., the audience Q&A segment.
According to Alamo Brown, founder of Soulful Softball Sunday, it was important to organize the event “because there haven’t been any outside meetings with the superintendent other than the school board.” He added that the group “wanted to get him in front of the community and let him introduce himself…and then have a meaningful dialogue.”
