A 33-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle in Richmond last week and police believe he was intentionally targeted.
On Monday, March 21, police responded to the area of South 8th Street and Hoffman Boulevard on reports of a man down in the roadway, police said. The victim, identified by the County Coroner’s Office as Raul Lopez Jr., a Richmond resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officers determined that Lopez had been hit by a vehicle but were unable to locate any witnesses or involved parties, police said.
The following day, investigators gained access to a commercial video that showed that the incident was not an accident and that Lopez had been “targeted with a vehicle,” police said.
The case was then turned over to the RPD homicide unit.
On Thursday, March 24, the suspect vehicle was located parked within the City of Richmond, police said. The Homicide Unit is still continuing with its homicide investigation, and no further details were provided.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact police.
