A special education paraprofessional at Grant Elementary School in Richmond is fundraising to expand the school garden he started three years ago with help from his school site administrator.

Marco Delgado says students get excited about gardening class.

“The students love being able to go into the garden and get their hands dirty,” he stated in his fundraiser on DonorsChoose.org, a website serving to connect teachers with donations to support the education of their students. “The hard work that they put in flipping the soil, preparing it for new seeds has been a very rewarding experience. The students are able to understand that gardening takes a process from point A all the way to point D.”

To expand garden education at the school, Delgado launched the fundraiser requesting garden beds, potting soil and seeds.

“Nothing is more rewarding than seeing the joy on my students’ faces when they see the different varieties of fruit and vegetables growing from the seeds they have planted,” Delgado said.
