Two people were fatally shot in separate shootings in Richmond on Saturday, police said.

At 9:37 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Macdonald Avenue on a report of  shooting and arrested a man at the scene who had allegedly shot an acquaintance during an argument, according to Richmond police Capt. Al Walle. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries, Walle said.

At 1:46 p.m., the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system alerted police to five gunshot rounds going off in the 4800 block of Hartnett Avenue, Walle said. Police responded and located a man who sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite lifesaving efforts by medical personnel, the victim died at the scene, Walle said.

“Sheriffs Office deputies and El Cerrito PD officers responded to assist with crowd control due to an unruly crowd who gathered at the scene,” Walle said.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
