The death of a man found in a house fire in North Richmond this morning is being called suspicious.

At 4:45 a.m., Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to assist Contra Costa County Fire Protection District personnel with traffic control at the scene of a house fire in the 1800 block of Giaramita Street.

Deputies learned a 23-year-old Virillio Patino-Cruz was found unresponsive in the home and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

An autopsy to determine Patino-Cruz’s cause of death is scheduled for Wednesday, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, whose detectives are working alongside ConFire arson investigators to probe the suspicious death.
