Locals looking to get their weekend started off right might consider stopping by Bridge Storage and ArtSpace on Fridays, when the creative compound hosts its “Foodhall Fridays.”
The food-centric offering, which runs every Friday from 2-6 p.m. through the end of the year, showcases the culinary magic of two talented chefs: Chef Brittni Waugh of Soulfully Dope Catering and Chef Marshawn Howard of M-6 Food & Catering.
Visitors can order from the chefs’ respective menus, which are prepared in Bridge’s onsite kitchen; prices range from $15-$25 and include a free beverage. During the Foodhall Fridays, people 21 and over can also enjoy a free taste of beer made by Richmond’s own Origin Brewer.
According to Bridge Commissary Kitchen Manager Phillip Mitchell, the menus offer “generous portions” and the scene is family friendly. “It’s so fun to see families out here,” he said, adding that Foodhall Fridays are “unique in that our guests get an opportunity to interact with our chefs.”
Topping off the get-fired-up-for-the-weekend-fun is live music by Steve Green & The Lifeline, which plays a variety of musical genres, including rock & roll, R&B and country & western. “They are really, really good,” Mitchell raved about the band that plays during the Foodhall Fridays.
According to Mitchell, Soulfully Dope Catering specializes in preparing a combination of creole and soul food that’s “really seasoned well.” M-6 Food & Catering has an eclectic menu with popular items including a Fried Chicken Sandwich and Fruity Pebbles Chicken & Waffles. Menus are updated weekly and guests can enjoy their meals onsite and outdoors on Bridge’s beautiful art and plant-adorned grounds—a serene escape with lots of places to nosh.
Those who can’t make it to Bridge on Foodhall Fridays can visit weekdays between 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to check out Kit’s Kitchen’s onsite outdoor restaurant, which includes offerings like Buddha Bowls and Hand-tossed Pizza. On Mondays and Wednesdays from 2-6 p.m., Chef Shimi cooks up Creole food with a twist, and on Thursdays from 2-6 p.m., Chef Alreca of Jamican Delights prepares Jamaican specialties.
“At any given day at Bridge, we have some of the best food in Richmond,” said Mitchell.
