After closing its retail space in Richmond’s Hilltop Mall at the start of the COVID-19 shelter in place order, the Multicultural Children’s Bookstore has reemerged to announce it will open in a new location and that it is also selling books online.
According to owner Tamara Shiloh, the bookstore will reopen in a shared space with Girl’s Inc. of West Contra Costa County at 260 Broadway in Richmond. Currently, the bookstore isn’t open for walk-in business yet; Shiloh hopes to open at the new location sometime in October or November of this year.
In the meantime, community members can purchase books by visiting the bookstore online. If the bookstore doesn’t have a book you want, Shiloh will order it for you. The bookstore also gives an online book reading every Wednesday at 2 p.m. Click here to check out past readings.
The Multicultural Children’s Bookstore’s good news come on the heels of the business recently being featured in Oprah Magazine as a black-owned bookstore.
