A man was fatally shot in Richmond’s Sante Fe neighborhood early Saturday, and the suspect in the homicide was arrested later the same day at the El Cerrito Plaza BART Station, police said.

At 12:47 a.m., officers responded to the 200 block of S. 3rd Street on a report of a shooting and located Juan Carlos Valdovinos 27, of Richmond on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound, Richmond police Capt. Al Walle said. Valdovinos was pronounced dead at the scene.

At 9 p.m. the same day, Richmond police detectives arrested Jacinto Chavarria, 27, of Richmond, at the BART Station in connection with the murder, police said.

According to police, the shooting followed a disagreement involving a small group of individuals during which one of the individuals pulled out a firearm and fired multiple shots at Valdovinos, police said.
