The new bicycle-pedestrian path on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge will be closed each night this week from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for maintenance work on the north side of the span.

The path closures will begin tonight and continue into Saturday morning, Dec. 14, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. The pathway will also be closed from 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17, until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, for similar maintenance work.

The four-mile-long path opened last month with much fanfare. As part of the project, the westbound shoulder on the bridge’s upper deck has been converted to a 10-foot-wide path that separates cyclists and pedestrians from vehicle traffic by a barrier that’s moveable via a zipper truck.
