A man who called a false emergency to 911 in Richmond Tuesday hoping that authorities would investigate illegally parked cars could face a criminal charge, police said.

The incident occurred at 7:16 a.m., when police and fire officials responded to the 911 call at Alta Mira Drive and Moyers Road, Richmond police Capt. Al Walle said.

When they arrived and didn’t find a fire, they investigated and learned that the man who called 911 “was upset about cars parking on the sidewalk and reported a false emergency in order to have officers investigate the vehicles,” Walle said.

The criminal complaint has been forwarded to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges.
