You ready to walk with our community’s Native Americans?

The 5th Annual Indigenous People’s Walk for Sobriety is set to take place Saturday, July 20, organizer Mike “Raccoon Eyes” Kinney announced during open forum at Richmond City Council on Tuesday.

The walk, set to feature keynote speaker Mayor Tom Butt and Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia, is being held by the United Urban Warrior Society-California Chapter (UUWS). The UUWS is a national organization advocating for the advancement of human and civil rights for Native Americans.

The focus is “ on mental health, recovery and sobriety,” Kinney said.

The walk will begin at two locations: Veterans Memorial Hall, 968 23rd St., at 11 a.m., and at the parking lot of Grocery Outlet, intersection of San Pablo and Macdonald avenues, at 11 a.m. The final destination: St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Barrett Avenue and 32nd Street.
