A 75-year-old man was killed after the Jeep he was driving went into an embankment and overturned in El Sobrante on Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Contra Costa CHP responded about 6:13 p.m. to a private maintained road near 5499 Sobrante Ave. The driver, identified as Arthur Horn of El Sobrante, was unresponsive and then extricated from the green Jeep. Lifesaving efforts were performed but unsuccessful, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said.
Alcohol and/or drugs are believed to be a factor in this collision, but the incident remains under investigation, CHP said. Witnesses to the crash stayed on the scene and were cooperative.
“In the initial investigation, it appears that the solo male driver of the Jeep was traveling south on the private road at an undetermined speed and then for reasons unknown at this time, accelerated into the dirt embankment, causing the Jeep to overturn,” CHP said.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it is asked to contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez, (925) 646-4980.
