Wendell Park is about to receive improved lighting at night after the city installed two new fixtures at its western entrance on Tuesday, a police captain says.
The North & East Neighborhood Council called for improved lighting at the park to deter street prostitution at the park, Richmond police Capt. Al Walle said.
On Thursday, Feb. 28, police officers canvassed the 2400 block of Wendell Avenue to ask neighbors if they would approve of brighter lights.
“There was overwhelming community support for improved lighting which was the last step needed for the city to begin working on the project,” Walle said.
On Wednesday, Walle said the city was waiting for Pacific Gas & Electric Co. to connect the new light fixtures.
“This is an example of the problem-solving efforts regularly conducted by our officers to respond to community concerns,” Walle said.
