There’s plenty of history on the Richmond waterfront.
The future is there, too.
Richmond youth and their families are invited to the Northland Sea Scout open house event this Saturday, March 9.
Up to 40 Sea Scouts from around the Bay Area will be on hand to showcase regatta training events at the Richmond Rendezvous and Open House, which will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1319 Canal Blvd., near the historic SS Red Oak Victory.
Youth ages 13 to 18 years old are encouraged to come by and check out what the Sea Scouts are all about.
The Richmond Sea Scouts is a program that trains youth ages 13 to 18 in sea-based skills that are particularly beneficial for those interested in a career in the Coast Guard, Navy, or maritime industry. The program trains young men in nautical skills: linehandling, mechanics, sailing, navigation, carpentry, cooking, leadership, and many other skills involved in operating a vessel.
More information about the program can be found at Northland Sea Scout Ship Facebook page or www.northlandnautical.org.
