Richmond police are seeking the public’s help in solving a homicide at Hilltop Lake Park last year.

On May 17, 2018, at 6:45 a.m., police responded to the park in the area behind the YMCA at 4300 Lakeside Drive on a call about a possible body in the water. Responding officers were directed by the reporting party to the body of Mitchell Smith. It was later determined that the death was caused by blunt force trauma.

While a suspect in this case was identified early on in the investigation and arrested, a lack of evidence and witnesses failed to yield criminal charges.

“Detectives are seeking witnesses to come forward that may have information pertaining to this case,” police said. “Any and all leads will be looked at and further investigated.”
