After finding the body of a man floating in the pond at Hilltop Lake Park last week, Richmond police said Tuesday an arrest has been made in the homicide case.
On Thursday, May 17 at 6:45 a.m., police responded to the park in the area behind 4300 Lakeside Drive, the YMCA, on a call about a possible body in the water. Responding officers were directed by the reporting party to the body, and it was later determined that the death was caused by blunt force trauma.
Police have identified the deceased as Mitchell Smith, 60, of Richmond.
A subsequent investigation led to an arrest in Crockett on Monday, May 21.
“Due to the sensitive nature of this ongoing investigation, the identity of the suspect is withheld,” police said.
Police are asking anyone with information about this murder to contact Det. Sagan at (510) 620-6622.
