Artist Michael “Mykl” Welch will be on hand to unveil his solo art show July 24-25 (Saturday-Sunday) from 2-5 p.m. at The Grape Nest wine bar in Point Richmond. The artist said his show, “Uncorking The Terroir-Driven Art of Mykl, The Sommelier Painter,” will include 15-20 acrylic paintings which arose from his prolific time in the studio during the pandemic. The show’s works will be up for viewing/purchase at the wine bar this weekend only.

The artist’s flurry of activity in the studio followed a long painting hiatus during which the San Jose resident studied and sold wine, including time as a wine specialist for the Wine Warehouse in Richmond.

According to Welch, the show will include “the best of his latest works,” the result of him discovering “something deep inside,” amid the pandemic. He also plans to show his art in other wine venues in the near future.

Welch added that he hopes people “enjoy his paintings as you would a wine of elegance and expression.”

The Grape Nest, Point Richmond’s first wine bar, is located at 229 Tewksbury Ave., Suite B, in Richmond. Learn more about The Grape Nest on its website. To contact Welch, who signs his paintings with the phonetic spelling of his name—“Mykl”—email him at [email protected].
