A highly-anticipated new hang out spot in Richmond — The Factory Bar — aims to open its doors in March.

On Friday, the Standard stopped by the emerging Richmond-themed bar, which remains under construction at 12517 San Pablo Ave., next to the new and popular El Tucan Restaurant on Clinton Avenue (former Pup Hut). At a groundbreaking that we covered in June last year, the business owners amply described their vision for the new bar, which is set to provide Richmond-themed drinks, foods and merchandise.

On Friday, we caught up with Andy Wells, a foreman for Conscious Construction, which is doing the interior and exterior work for The Factory Bar. While we marveled at a new, 27-foot-long bar, Well’s crew was busy placing lighting fixtures over the bar and on its back wall.

At the back of The Factory Bar, an outdoor Japanese-influenced garden has emerged where patrons will be able to dine and drink. Tabletops colored with Richmond history and vegetables grown in the bar’s back yard “victory garden” are among new features that can be viewed by following The Factory Bar’s Facebook page.

“The owners had a great design team and we are here to make their vision come to life,” Wells said. “All the locals in the area and across Richmond are really excited about the Factory Bar. The word we hear a lot is everyone and everybody will have a great laid back place to gather locally. All of my crew and I live here in Richmond and it’s a pleasure to work where we all live.”

The original version of this story incorrectly stated the length of the bar. The story has since been updated.
