Karl Fong finally gets to talk about who won the Halloween Baking Championship on the Food Network.
And yes, it’s him!
The baker from Hercules, who owns Vallejo-based Cakes by Karl, was declared the winner in the finale of the 5th season of the nationally-televised bake off, which aired on Monday.
We recently spoke with Fong about his ascension in the show, which was filmed back in May. As difficult as it was, Fong kept his promise not to spill the beans on who won.
Several episodes in, however, he emerged as a favorite on the show and would become the season’s champion, earning the $25,000 prize. According to Fansided, which details every episode, Karl was described as “having the most impressive showing” throughout the season.
“The majority of challenges had him finishing in the top positions,” writer Cristine Struble said. “Also, he showed a lot of variety throughout the season.”
in a post on the Cakes by Karl Facebook page, Fong paid tribute to “fellow amazing bakers” and those who supported him along the way.
“I’m gonna keep working hard to make the best desserts I can for everyone,” Fong said. “Thank you for watching the show and I hope to see you again soon.”
Fong trained in the culinary program at Contra Costa College and the California Culinary Academy and also for a brief stint in Barcelona. He’s practiced martial arts for over 25 years, which became a theme on the show and has played a role in Fong’s discipline and skill as a baker.
