Pinole police seize M-1000 fireworks from stolen vehicle

West Contra Costa communities might be just a little bit quieter after police in Pinole seized over a dozen M-1000 type illegal explosives during a bust involving a stolen vehicle early this morning. At 2:50 a.m., officers located a stolen vehicle in the 1400 block of Fitzgerald Drive and took the driver into custody without incident, police said. "Upon a search of the vehicle, officers located a clear plastic bag that contained what appeared to be at least a dozen M-1000 type illegal explosives," police said. "The area was cordoned off for safety and Walnut Creek PD's Bomb Squad responded to the scene. Bomb Squad Officers recovered the illegal explosives and verified they contained flash powder. [Fifteen] M-1000 type explosives were recovered from the vehicle."
