The Contra Costa County Clerk’s Office is opening this Saturday, Feb. 14, to host a special Valentine’s Day wedding event.

Although the office is usually closed on weekends, staff members are working the holiday to help local couples tie the knot on the year’s most romantic day. All 47 ceremony appointments are already fully booked due to high demand.

County Clerk-Recorder Kristin B. Connelly noted they performed 52 ceremonies on Valentine’s Day last year. While the county often holds these holiday weddings at historic landmarks, this year’s Saturday event will take place directly at the Martinez office to focus on wedding services.

Couples with an appointment must have a marriage license before their ceremony. These can be bought on-site the same day for $95 for a public license or $100 for a confidential one. The ceremony itself costs $75. Even if you don’t have a ceremony appointment, the office will be open on Saturday for anyone who simply needs to buy a marriage license.
