Sylvester Greenwood Academy Principal Phillip Johnson received a high-profile “thank you” for his service to local youth this holiday season.

On Christmas Day, the Golden State Warriors recognized Johnson as an Impact Warrior, an honor reserved for community members making a transformative difference in the Bay Area.

The recognition took place at center court during halftime of the Warriors’ Christmas Day matchup at Chase Center.

Under Johnson’s leadership, Sylvester Greenwood Academy recently earned the California Continuation Model School Award. The prestigious designation is awarded to schools that provide exemplary programs for at-risk youth. Greenwood was specifically cited for its balance of academic rigor and its commitment to the social and emotional well-being of its students.

“Mr. Johnson is a dedicated administrator who prides himself on building strong relationships with students, staff, and families,” the West Contra Costa Unified School District stated. “His goal is for every student to leave Greenwood as a better person than when they arrived and to pursue productive, fulfilling lives after high school.”
