In a heartfelt ceremony on Nov. 21, the City of Pinole formally renamed its Public Maintenance Corporation Yard the Robert Walker Jr. Corporation Yard in honor of the late Robert Walker Jr., the longest-serving employee in the city’s history.

“His name will now greet our Public Works team every morning – forever,” his colleagues said.

Walker dedicated 45 years of his life to the City of Pinole’s Public Works Department,  where he “built meaningful relationships and contributed to the community he loved so much,” according to the city. He was described as showing up every single day with kindness, pride, and unmatched dedication to keeping the city running beautifully.

“His coworkers were like family, and his commitment to the city was a true reflection of his character and passion for service,” colleagues said.

He passed away in October 2024, leaving a lasting legacy. Earlier this year, the City Council approved memorial installations honoring Walker, including the renaming of the corporation yard and a commemorative memorial near Pinole Valley Park.

Walker was also posthumously awarded the Key to the City during Pinole’s July 4 celebration, a ceremony that brought together city leaders, family members, and community supporters to celebrate his life and service. His daughter, Tracy Walker, accepted the honor on his behalf.

“Thank you to the staff who championed this tribute, to Council for making it official, and especially to the Walker family for sharing Robert’s legacy with all of us,” city officials said.
