In response to waste-collection disruptions during the July 2025 strike by workers at Republic Services, Richmond residents will receive a one-time bill credit.
Under a settlement authorized by city officials and that is set to be reviewed by the Richmond City Council on Tuesday, the credit will cover the cost of missed collection services and is slated to appear on customers’ next bill, scheduled before January 2026.
Bill credits are happening in other cities, such as in Fremont and Stockton. It wasn’t immediately clear if similar credits will be happening in other West Contra Costa County jurisdictions. We’ve reached out to Republic Services for comment. Check back for updates.
The service interruption, which lasted roughly July 8–19, caused garbage and recycling pickups to be delayed across the city.
City officials note that the rebate will come directly from Republic Services, not the city’s general fund.
