A man is being honored for stopping to help two young children walking alone in the dark in San Pablo. He reportedly “waited with them and alerted officers” out of concern for their welfare, according to the San Pablo Police Department.

“Because of his diligent observations & thoughtful actions, the children were safely reunited with their family,” police said.

The caring community member was the latest recipient of the city’s Kindness Counts initiative, a partnership with the San Pablo EDC to provide those who show kindness toward their community with vouchers to local businesses such as restaurants.

Last week, Day Shift Officers gave one of the vouchers to a community member who witnessed a medical emergency and stopped to call 911.

“Due to her kind act the subject was able to get the help he needed,” police said.

The gift of a voucher was described by police as “a way of saying ‘thank you’ for helping keep San Pablo safer and kinder.”
