Contra Costa College Professor Mark Wong was recently awarded the 2025 Faculty Member Award for the Pacific Region (California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii) by the Association of Community College Trustees.

Wong is now among five finalists under consideration for the national ACCT Faculty Member honor.

The ACCT regional awards recognize one distinguished faculty member per region, honoring leadership, innovation, and measurable impact on students’ academic progress. Wong will receive formal recognition at the ACCT Leadership Congress later this year.

A faculty member at Contra Costa College since 2007, Wong serves as co-chair of the Engineering & Physics Department. He holds a B.Sc. in Physics from UC Berkeley and an M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from UC San Diego.

Wong is a strong proponent of equitable access to STEM. He mentors students through CCC’s APECS Club (focused on engineering, flight, and robotics) and co-leads the college’s participation in NASA’s National Community College Aerospace Scholars program.

Under his mentorship, students Sudinma Thapa and Emily Au won the 2025 MESA USA National Engineering Design Competition, and CCC was selected as one of only two community colleges nationwide invited to participate in NASA’s 2025 Student Rocket Launch Challenge.

“Mark’s leadership and compassion make a lasting impact on our students and our community,” said CCC President Dr. Kimberly R. Rogers.

CCC’s District Chancellor Mojdeh Mehdizadeh added that Wong has “developed and revitalized STEM programs,” built sustainable pathways, and fostered partnerships to ease transitions from high school to college.
