McGlothen Temple Church of God in Christ is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a “Homecoming FestSaturday, July 26, from noon to 4 p.m. at its home at 1443 Fred Jackson Way in North Richmond.

The free, family-friendly event will feature music, food vendors, games, and activities for all ages. Local businesses and artisans can still reserve vendor spots for $100 by emailing [email protected].

Pastor Willie C. Haynes III said the church holds deep meaning for him due to its long history in the community, as well as its faith, hope and resilience in the face of societal changes.

“God has shown me that our legacy is rooted in His promises, with a future of continued growth, unity and purpose as we remain rooted in His love,” Pastor Haynes said. “Ultimately, our dedicated members bring the church to life, and I’m excited to do ministry alongside them week in and week out.”

The church’s charitable activities have spanned the decades to include providing support and food to shipyard workers during World War II, offering a onetime after-school tutoring program, administering food distributions for those in need, celebrating an annual Winter Wonderland with toy/clothing giveaways and more, according to member Nancy DeVille.

“The secret to the church’s enduring strength is keeping God at its core and staying true to Jesus Christ’s mission,” Pastor Haynes said. “McGlothen Temple has always been rooted in love, prayer and a desire to meet the needs of peoplde—both spiritually and physically.”

The church’s Homecoming Fest is part of a weekend of celebration leading up to its 100th anniversary worship service at noon and 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 27.
