Melissa Klawuhn has been appointed as the City of Pinole’s new police chief.
Chief Klawuhn was described by the city as a 23-year veteran and innovative leader with “operational expertise, financial acumen and a commitment to community engagement to her new role.”
Leading up to Chief Klawuhn’s appointment, Pinole’s city manager sought input from community members and stakeholders through public forums, surveys and a community interview panel. Chief Klawuhn check marked the process’ emerging priorities, namely her commitment to transparency, community-focused policing, creating programs for mental health outreach/support, organizing programs to mentor women in law enforcement and fostering positive relationships, according to the city.
Acting Chief Matt Avery plans to retire from the Pinole Police Department at the end of December. Commander Jeremy Crone will be the interim police chief until Klawuhn takes over her duties in mid-January.
The city of Pinole expressed its gratitude to Acting Chief Avery and Commander Crone for their exceptional leadership and for stepping up during this transitional period.
