El Cerrito and San Pablo are partnering to share the cost on sending Contra Costa County’s C.O.R.E. homeless services program to both cities.

Since 2018, San Pablo has contracted for a County H3 Coordinated Outreach Referral, Engagement (C.O.R.E.) services team in partnership with Richmond to deploy to both cities. The contract between those cities recently extended through June 30, 2026.

Discussions began last year to expand C.O.R.E. services to El Cerrito, leading to a new partnership involving San Pablo. Due to the new partnership, San Pablo is seeing its C.O.R.E. services expanded to four days per week (32 hours) through June 30, 2026. The city is investing a total of $442,771 in city general funds to expand homeless outreach services.

San Pablo Mayor Patricia Ponce described such partnerships as a way for local cities to make a big difference on this issue without making a bigger dent on their budgets.

“Regional partnerships with other nearby cities are key, and the County H3 CORE program continues to play a vital role in providing these services to our local communities to address an ongoing and critical issue facing local cities,” the mayor said.
