Tortas y Taqueria Los Picudos serves up Mexico City-style eats

When was the last time you dined at Tortas Y Taqueria Los Picudos?

A vast array of Mexico City-style tortas, tacos and other specialties has earned this central San Pablo restaurant a loyal following. It’s evident they take their cuisine seriously; a sign displayed on the wall accompanied by the taqueria’s menu declares, “No torta, no life!”

One super fan of the taqueria’s food is local actor Alonso Saravia, who said, “It’s family owned and all the ingredients are freshly prepared daily. Everything is extremely authentic.” He emphasized that, other than the bread, everything is made in-house.

On a recent visit to the eatery, the Standard observed a lunchtime crowd awaiting their orders to be fulfilled by two friendly and attentive workers preparing them with fresh ingredients. One patron said that she ordered a dish from the “Tortas Especiales” menu, the Cubana Torta, one of many tortas offered.

This reporter ordered the Quesabirria Taco to-go for my son, the pint-sized taco conocedor in our family, and he thoroughly enjoyed it.
