A San Pablo police officer was in the right place at a right time when he saved the life of a 1-week-old baby earlier this month, according to the San Pablo Police Department.
At 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 9, Officer Brandon Oswald heard a medical call about an infant who was not breathing near the West County Health Center in San Pablo, police said.
Officer Oswald was just around the corner, so he arrived at the scene within seconds and found the infant’s mother crying for help.
“Officer Oswald took the child and began performing infant CPR,” police said. “Within seconds officers were able to dislodge the obstruction and the baby began crying. Medical units arrived and escorted the family to the hospital to make sure the baby was okay.”
The San Pablo Police Department shared photos from the heroic scene. Officer Oswald joined the SPPD in 2017 after working with the Concord Police Department as an Explorer. He was also a member of the Army Reserve.
