Pinole is the latest city adding Big Belly waste receptacles in public spaces.

As part of a pilot project, the city’s Public Works department recently installed two of the high-capacity, solar-powered Big Bellys in downtown Pinole.

“The Big Belly system is a fully enclosed bin and offers a unique built-in compaction technology with up to 5-to-1 compaction ratio,” city officials said. “This means a reduction in windblown litter, elimination of food source for pests, and fewer collections resulting in cleaner spaces.”

City staff will monitor the operation and performance of these bins during the pilot period. If successful, you might be seeing more of these around town.
