Contra Costa sheriff's deputies help save life at Martinez jail

Narcan was used to revive an unconscious 40-year-old man at the Martinez jail this morning.

At about 7:10 a.m., deputies at the Martinez Detention Facility were notified about an unconsious and unresponsive arrestee in the sally-port area. The San Pablo Police Department arrested the man. He was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility by a jailer, who attempted to revive him prior to notifying deputies.

Deputies provided two doses of Narcan, used in cases of suspected opiod overdose.

“Contra Costa Health Services medical staff at MDF arrived and provided additional doses of Narcan,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

The man was subsequently taken to Contra Costa Regional Medical Center in Martinez, where he recovered. He was discharged from the hospital this afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office said.
