The former site of Fire Station 70 in San Pablo will soon become home to police, but not without some improvements first.
Last week, the San Pablo City Council approved budgeting $225,000 for a project to make improvements to the former fire station site located at 13928 San Pablo Ave. so that police personnel can operate in the facility.
In summer 2020, the City of San Pablo moved to a new City Hall complex at 1000 Gateway Avenue. Previously, City Hall was located at 13831 San Pablo Ave., a property that will soon become a mixed-use development. Now, San Pablo police personnel that currently occupy the former City Hall site — including 15 full-time and part-time Police Department employees working in the code enforcement, community outreach, priority oriented policing, tobacco enforcement and cadet units — need new digs.
The city acquired the former fire station at 13928 San Pablo Ave. from the County in exchange for the new Fire Station 70 property at 23rd and Market streets. The city now plans to make improvements to the former fire station in order to house police personnel.
