AC Transit will resume collecting fares starting Monday, Oct. 19.

The transit agency stopped fare collection in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, and also began rear-door boarding to promote social distancing on buses.

AC Transit is currently installing face mask and hand sanitizer dispensers onboard for the riders to use, and also protective barriers by the farebox area safeguarding operators and riders. All dispensers and protective shields are expected to be installed throughout the system by Friday, Oct. 16.

In addition to resuming fare collection, front-door boarding will also resume Friday, Oct. 16.

For more information, check the Fares and Clipper page on AC Transit’s website, or contact the Customer Call Center at 510-891-4777.

  1. Do we run the risk of having the annual or seasonal influenza become an epidemic or pandemic by having both testing for COVID-19 and the flu shots in the same place? I won’t get my flu shot at the same place for testing for the coronavirus. One is seasonal and the other is universal or pandemic and are controlled differently. Additionally, there is no available vaccine for the coronavirus at the current time. Both are virus related, but, seasonal or annually is controlled differently than universally or pandemic. The attention, medical attention, should be different also. In any case, it is still the decision of the patient to complete the information nescessary for either coronavirus testing or only influenza. The questionaire will read differently for each viral attention. For example, if you are ill on the day you wish to get an annual flu shot, the nurse will not give you the vaccine, but, suggest you return when you are well. On the other hand, the COVID-19 testing might not consider illlness a reason not to take the coronavirus test. Patient’s Choice in any case, to get the shot, only or both. Personally, I prefer to do one at a time on different visits to different places.
