A person was rescued from the Bay after a boat capsized near the Phillips 66 refinery early Wednesday evening, according to Local 1230 IAFF, the union representing firefighters in the Rodeo-Hercules Fire Protection District.
A Phillips 66 employee witnessed the boat capsizing and threw a life ring to the lone victim, the firefighters union said.
The U.S. Coast Guard was in the area and pulled the man to safety.
“The real hero of this story is the victim’s life vest which truly saved a life tonight in the rough Bay waters,” firefighters said. “Please, always remember to wear a life vest, your life may depend on it.
The Pinole Fire Department was also involved in the rescue.
