A 19-year-old Pinole man was killed in a solo motorcycle collision on Highway 1 north of Point Reyes Station Tuesday, according to the Marin County Coroner’s Division.
Daniel Cameron Turchie was riding a 2007 Honda CBR600RR sport bike at a moderate speed just after 6 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a sweeping turn in the roadway, officials said. His bike crossed over the center painted dividing lines and struck a utility pole on the west side of the roadway shoulder.
Turchie was ejected from the motorcycle about 300 yards south of the Giacomini Ranch. He was reportedly discovered unconscious and unresponsive. Despite attempts by a bystander and deputies to perform CPR and other medical aid, Turchie was pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner’s office said.
“A forensic post mortem examination and toxicology testing have been scheduled for later this week,” officials said. “The cause and manner of death will be pending the conclusion of the investigation being completed by the California Highway Patrol – Marin Office and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office – Coroner Division.”
Marin County officials offered their condolences to the family and friends of Turchie for their loss in the tragic collision.
