“Coach LT is doing big things within the community.”
That’s how an El Sobrante woman described LaTona Whitaker, who has gained a reputation in the community for inspiring fitness and overall health.
On Thursday, Oct. 3, Whitaker, a De Anza High graduate, former police officer, longtime track and field coach and trainer, is marking the next step in that mission with the grand opening celebration of Get It Girl Fitness at 3550 San Pablo Dam Road.
The San Pablo Police Department is organizing the event in partnership with the San Pablo Economic Development Corp. It all starts at noon and includes demonstrations, a ribbon-cutting and light refreshments.
Those wishing to attend should RSVP here.
Monica of El Sobrante said she’s elated Whitaker is opening her own place.
“In addition to transforming lives via health and fitness, she has built a community of women empowering other women,” Monica said.
Whitaker studied criminal justice and coached track and field at Hercules High School for 15 years and Diablo Valley College for two years. She served as a police officer for 10 years and now is “a proud business owner for women looking to get in shape in a fun, judgment-free zone,” specializing in group lessons and personal training for women.
